Presentation of good practice

Kö7 – High School Students’ Week is an annual community event for high school students connected to Szeged, which took place for the tenth time in 2025, during the Sustainability Week. The aim of the series of events, which revives the traditions of the High School Arts Week of the 1990s, is to create opportunities for young people to meet and perform beyond the school walls, in urban spaces.

The special feature of the program is that the young people themselves organize the event for their peers. Throughout the year-long organizational process, youth professionals, teachers, dormitory educators, and civil partners support the work of the young people.

The team builds on ideas, plans together, and then implements individual program elements in smaller groups.

One of the most popular examples of this is the escape room , which was created entirely at the initiative of the organizing youth, from their ideas and work.

The highlight of the program is that during the organization, students from different schools work together, which broadens their horizons and creates new connections.

Participants gain useful experience in teamwork, responsibility, and active citizenship not only during the event, but also in the preparatory work.

The success of Kö7 is proven not only by the large number of participants, but also by the commitment of the young organizers, the maintenance of partnerships, and the long-term community impacts.

The event is communicated on the platforms used by the young people. It has a separate website, Facebook and Instagram pages. Teachers are informed via email.

Adaptability

Good practice can be adapted for other communities if a motivated core of organizers, continuous coordination, and local collaborations are available.

Although the duration and size of the event can be flexibly adjusted, the main lesson is that every year and every team is different – the key to success is flexibility and the ability to constantly re-plan .
