Presentation of good practice

This good practice is aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 12, and aims to teach them in a playful and fairy-tale way how to use digital devices – such as phones, tablets or computers – safely and wisely. The program is implemented in settlements where there is a kindergarten or primary school.

During the sessions, they read stories together, act out different situations, talk, draw, and create. This way, children learn in a playful way what to do if, for example, someone writes them a strange message on the internet, or if they come across a video they don’t understand. The method of the sessions is not formal: it is not a school lesson, but rather storytelling-based, experience-based learning in a safe environment.

The program features Sango , a robot ninja invented by children. He is a kind, friendly fairy tale hero who helps children navigate the digital world, and through his stories, children can recognize online situations that occur in their own lives.

The initiative has been a great success: it was launched after the pandemic, and many people have been interested in it ever since. Based on feedback from teachers and parents, the program helps to develop safe digital habits together with children. The program has been recognized in several places, for example, it won an award in Budapest.

The public was informed through articles, social media posts, and videos. The program can easily be replicated in other communities if there is a committed adult who playfully and openly approaches children and helps them navigate the online world.

Adaptability

If the materials related to the program are reviewed based on what was described previously, implementation can also take place smoothly.
